Amazon has reportedly sued over 10,000 Facebook group administrators, accusing them of arranging false reviews in exchange for compensation or free items. The e-commerce giant stated that the Facebook groups were formed to hire people to post slanted and deceptive reviews about its stores in the United States and many European countries.
It is worth noting that the issue of fake comments is not new to the Seattle-based corporation, which has previously sued individuals who were providing fabricated feedback on its website, though regulatory agencies have questioned whether the organization has adequate policies in place to address the issue.
Sources claimed that one of the Facebook groups Amazon is targeting is titled 'Amazon Product Review,' and it has over 43,000 members. Facebook's parent company, Meta, removed the group this year, although it was able to avoid detection by modifying text in phrases to avoid triggering the social media behemoth's warning sirens.
Amazon stated that it has notified Meta of this since 2020 and that 50 % of these clusters have been removed, with the remaining ones being scrutinized.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), after receiving testimony from the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, confirmed that it had launched spot checks at Amazon facilities in Florida, Illinois, and New York.
Officials have announced the opening of an investigation into the safety hazards at the company's warehouses across the country, as well as bogus actions intended to conceal injury issues from OSHA and others.
Labor and safety activists have widely criticized Amazon's accident rates, which are higher than the industry average, and its "time off task" policy, which penalizes employees who take too many rest periods.
While the company maintains that the claims are without merit, it has agreed to cooperate with OSHA in its inquiry. On the other hand, the United States Attorney's Office is incentivizing current and former Amazon warehouse workers to disclose work environment security issues to them.
