RPM International Inc. has recently announced the acquisition of a leading sandpaper & other abrasives manufacturer, Ali Industries, LLC, by RPM’s Rust-Oleum business. Ali Industries, which is headquartered in Fairborn, Ohio, has recorded nearly $75 million in annual net sales.

Ali Industries, commercially regarded as Gator Finishing Products, is a leading innovator in the market that provides finishing products for floor sanding, cutting & grinding, hand sanding, and power sanding. Its products find applications on various surfaces, such as in painting or metal & wood finishing, which are sold under various well-recognized brand names, including Zip Sander, Finish 1st, and Gator.

Abrasive products manufactured by Ali Industries in the United States are distributed across automotive supply stores, paint, hardware, mass merchandisers, and home improvement centers in North America. Following the recent takeover, Ali Industries will become a free-standing unit under the Rust-Oleum business of RPM International, which is a leading manufacturer of innovative coatings across the globe. These coatings developed by RPM extensively empower professionals as well as DIYs (do-it-yourselfers). As a part of the Rust-Oleum business, the Ali brothers, Philip, Chris, and Terry, will continue to lead the business.

According to CEO & Chairman of RPM, Frank C. Sullivan, the acquisition of Ali Industries will ensure a strategic fit to the company’s Consumer Group, as it enhances the surface preparation capabilities of the segment via the addition of abrasives to its cleaning, patch, and repair product lineup. The latest deal will also help drive the distribution base of Ali as well as enable its business to enter new markets. In addition, the agreement offers significant opportunities for the company to maintain a robust connection with the retailers, which in turn, will aid in meeting the rising needs of the customers.

Additional terms of the recent transaction have not been disclosed.
